We aim to bring people together, encourage collaboration, and support research projects focused on answering the following research questions:
- How do audiences use subtitles, and in what contexts? How do they feel about them?
- How does subtitling impact audiences’ understanding and interpretation of subtitled content?
- How can research into audience needs and attitudes help to answer questions that are currently pressing for subtitling professionals, distributors and exhibitors?
- Which research methods can best enhance our understanding of how subtitles can be optimised for audiences?
- Where may innovation be best deployed in researching audience understanding and enjoyment of subtitled media?
- What differentiated needs are there among different audience groups, and how can subtitling provision best support these?
